Lighting Fair 2007 Review--Part 2: LED

Introduction

The Lighting Fair 2007 held in March, this year recorded the greatest number of visitors to ever come, totaling to 96,948 participants in four days. The show ended successfully. In the previous column, I introduced the contents of exhibition of organic electroluminescence (O-LED), light source development progressed the world, first runner. (click here for details) This time around, the topic centered on LED, which is now being considered、as well as O-LED、as the main light source in the 21st century.

1. 2007 is the First Year of LED Lighting Utilization

Among 121 companies, a half of them exhibits LED lighting. Moreover, unlike the last time when color production lighting LED, the illumination of the product had been the main exhibition, it featured clear vision lighting by white LED light this year. It was shown in practical form .i.e. goods. It was this different from before where demonstration had been the main model. Lighting Fair 2007 is dubbed as the first year to put LED to practical use for lighting.

In Japan where land prices are high, it can be foreseen that the new products of the LED light source, with small and miniaturized design from a viewpoint of intensive space use will spread quickly since the miniaturization intention of a light is strong. Moreover, in comparison to a halogen lamp, the representation of the existing small light source which is carrying out market formation now, LED has much less heat emission, its air-conditioning load is also small, and it is also useful for energy-saving. More and more people are thinking about energy-saving today and that promotes to put LED to practical use for lighting.

Moreover, visitors of the exhibition for shop systems and fixturing, JAPAN SHOP, held at the same time, also felt interests in an energy saving LED lighting and an environmental symbiosis type light source, and also visited the Lighting Fair hall for future reference of store lighting.


2. Exhibit Situation of Each Company

- MATSUSITA booth, TOSHIBA LIGHTING & TECHNOLOGY
MATSUSHITA booth (MATSUSHITA ELECTRIC INDUSTRIAL/MATSUSITA ELECTRIC WORKS) who had the biggest exhibition space in the hall were carrying out divided exhibition for every use from the LED module to a variety of product, they were exhibiting a LED lineups with the trademark of EVERLEDS. I observed a LED lighting device which had a light volume equivalent to a 32W type of fluorescent light instrument with the brightness of 3700 lumens also .This lighting device has a dazzling brightness so that the prejudice of LED lamp is dim will be wiped away now.

Various practical LED devices that can be used in living space were announced to attract attention. In it it'll also introduce E-CORE of TOSHIBA LIGHTING & TECHNOLOGY.
The energy-saving small down light, which is put on the down light market for residences which an operating condition equalizes, has the brightness of 40W filament lamp. It is as efficient as a 50 lm/W, and energy consumed as compared with the former type instrument, decreases by one seventh. And the LED lamp of 40,000 life-hours does not need to replace bulbs for about ten years, even if used 10 hours a day. It is very good for houses for elderly who have to be very careful to do it.

- ODELIC and JAPAN LED ASSOCIATION (JLEDS)
In the last Lighting Fair, although ODELIC displayed the optical reflective design LED exterior series which has no glare and was observed, this time the LED exterior spotlight of the transformer integral type was exhibited. Power LED1.2W×3 has two colors, white and electric bulb, the spot size is 80mm (diameter) × 107mm (length). Since it is a compact and orthodox design, it can be used widely on any space. Moreover the exterior down light is also fixed in the design series, and the miniaturization which is the LED feature is employed efficiently.

In the JLEDS booth, six JLEDS company members gathered to exhibit LED lighting components.

In one company, SHOWA DENKO, a construction lightweight face panel (with the size of 600mm×1800mm, with cement as the main material) called "LAMBDA" was exhibited.
The LED lamp is built into the panel and various pattern designs of lighting production were freed. (By putting it together with a building-materials panel, attachment construction is also easy) Furthermore, it was possible to make new illuminations if the three primary colors (RGB) LED light are used. This lead also to the creation of new market, such as business building and store's
outer wall, and the creation of "construction-ized lighting" one of the lighting techniques .

In addition to this, SUMITOMO CHEMICAL also held a display. Experts would easily know about this company that manufacture 20 about 3cm color acrylics boards bundled with a ball chain, of the trademark of "SUMIPEX" drawn beside it. This material is suitable for sample exhibition various kinds of acrylics and thin sheets are, since it can demonstrate diffusion effect by carrying out a special mat finish. It is the best for reconciling a high-intensity light source and LED light and making it spread. Furthermore, it could be said that the LED light without heat is congenial to SUMIPEX sheets. This company is absorbed in searching light emitting diode, and since it is a company with plane material, the appearance of O-LES is also likely to be expected.

In the YOSHIKAWA KASEI in JLEDS, the new work lens with a smallest-in-the-world diameter of 9.5mm was exhibited as a spot light combining a 1.2W high power electric bulb color LED. Although I was surprised with the sharp light and brightness, the condensed illumination was 875 luxs (30cm of distance). Since it is the company which can manufacture of a pocket camera, if it is mass-produced, we can take it at reasonable price.

- Other Main LED lighting exhibition Booth
There were very large highlights in this Lighting Fair that should also be called first year LED lighting utilization. Although introducing of all of them is impossible on account of a space, I will try to introduce some through pictures, thus finishing this LED editing

The forward future development of such original product series as DELICIA is pleasurably.

Since this design can produce the same brightness as FL20W, it will obtain evaluation as a street light of LED, an energy-saving light source not only in Japan but in the West.

 
Fig.35.36. LED lamp dragon 3W type (DRAGON puck) which is popular in Europe were exhibited by a color temperature or light distribution in the exhibition corner of the MITSUBISHI OSRAM. I was able to hear about the expectation on the Japanese LED lamp market predicted to develop into urgency from now on.


Fig.37. YAMADA SHOMEI LIGHTING which commercialized the LED lighting devices promptly on the Japanese lighting community, and has already developed market cultivation. The LED lighting stand was put on the receptionist desk of an exhibition site, and the motion of a smooth arm was practical.
